The fourth edition of the Bouddi Coastal Run on the weekend saw hundreds of enthusiastic trail runners competing at Putty Beach on the NSW Central Coast.
With 21km and 14km course options, the field was a diverse mix of hardened trail veterans and newcomers looking forward to the spectacular views along the race route. The variety of trail surfaces kept everyone on their toes and the views kept everyone smiling until they conquered the final stretch along the beach to the finish line. The beach was very tempting and many runners were seen enjoying a post-race swim to cool down.
Local runners took many of the podium places across all categories with local knowledge obviously an advantage. The fastest Male in the 21km course and the overall winner was Ronnie Sparke in a super quick 1:43:13, an incredible effort and new course record by 20 seconds! Perennial podium finisher Dominic Perry was 2nd in 1.45.20 and James Tunbridge was 3rd in 1:47:12.
The fastest Female on the day was Darna Hedges in 2:19:28 a few minutes clear of Rachel Corbett in 2:22:25 in 2nd, just in front of Amy Teasdale in 2:23:15, well done to these runners on your overall podium finish.
On the 14km course Therese Auton put in a massive run to finish 2nd overall and set a new Female course record in 1:14:18, congratulations Therese. 2nd placed female runner was from the junior category and was Indianna West in 1:29:19, one to watch for the future, who pulled away in the final few hundred metres from mum Colleen West who finished in 1:29:38 and 3rd overall.
The local crew were on top in the 14km Male category, Geoff Arnold first home in 1:10:44, followed by Geoff Webster in 1:15:51 and Martin Newcombe in 1:19:49
Congratulations to all these runners and to all the podium finishers in your respective age categories, your prizes are on their way to you!
Many of the runners were seen sporting flash looking merchandise from event sponsors ThermaTech and getting into the Tailwind Nutrition provided on course given the humid conditions. Pure Running was also there to cheer on runners as well as offer a range of running gear and accessories for your next training run.
Thank you also to the Central Coast Council for supporting this event. We hope runners took advantage of having a weekend away on the NSW Central Coast and enjoyed their time after the race, exploring all the region has to offer.
A big shout out to the large number of volunteers who helped us to run a smooth event for our participants. The red army was all along the course, cheering the runners on and really adding to the atmosphere at the event. Finally, we thank all runners who fundraised and/or donated to our charity partner, Camp Quality. Your support goes a long way to helping kids facing cancer the chance to be kids again.
